Freedom
Hi everyone. I’m Sherry Douglas with Heart-Song. Last week our nation
celebrated Juneteenth, the emancipation of slaves. Soon we will also celebrate
the 250th anniversary of our nation’s declaration of freedom. Scripture is the
foundation of and also speaks of freedom. The Book of Psalms contains several
verses that celebrate spiritual liberation and freedom from oppression, concepts
we all desire for ourselves and those we love.
Psalm 119:45: "I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts."
Psalm 146:7: "He upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the
hungry. The LORD sets prisoners free…"
Psalm 118:5: "In my anguish I cried to the Lord, and he answered by setting me
free."
Psalm 107:13-14: "Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved
them from their distress. He brought them out of darkness, the utter darkness,
and broke away their chains."
Freedom isn’t discussed only in Psalms. 2 Corinthians 3:17 says, “Now the Lord
is the Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is present, there is freedom.”
Live the way you want to be remembered!
