Words to SPARK your Heart-Song – Episode #277

Friends

Hi everyone. I’m Sherry Douglas with Heart-Song. A couple of weeks ago Heart-Song offered a
Girls Night Out. One of the activities the women were able to do was to answer the questions,
“What is your best friend like? What character qualities does she or he have?” The answers
varied, of course, but one of the basic responses included the word “caring.” As I looked at
definitions of “caring,” I was struck by the deepness of it’s meaning. Some of the descriptions
included kindness, compassion, and often showing concern for the needs and feelings of
others. We all yearn for friends like that, don’t we? People who know us well enough to see our
needs and feelings? Who know us well enough to be kind and show us compassion when we’re
hurting.
Last week I was at a women’s gathering in which friendship was the theme. The key learning
was that to have a good friend, we have to be a good friend. So many people are lonely, yet
they isolate themselves. And we all know that if we keep to ourselves, we’re not going to make
friends. It takes courage and boldness to reach out to another person when you want or need a
friend. Reaching out can look different for each one of us. If you need a friend, what is your
next step?
Live the way you want to be remembered.
