Laughter
Hi everyone. I’m Sherry Douglas with Heart-Song. Mark and I recently had a wonderful
vacation together. We had many good laughs and we all know laughter makes most
things better! I then saw this quote by William Makepeace Thackeray, “A good laugh is
like sunshine in the house.” This suggests that laughter has the power to brighten a
space just as sunlight transforms a dark room. When people laugh, tension fades and
the atmosphere becomes warmer and more inviting. Much like sunshine can make a
house feel alive and welcoming, laughter fills it with energy, comfort, and a sense of
connection. It reminds us that happiness doesn’t always come from big events, but
often from small, shared moments of joy.
This idea is echoed in scripture, such as Proverbs 17:22: “A cheerful heart is good
medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” This verse reinforces the truth that
laughter and joy are not trivial—they are deeply beneficial to our well-being. In difficult
or stressful times, a simple laugh can lift spirits and shift perspective, making problems
feel more manageable. Just as sunshine nurtures growth, laughter nurtures the human
spirit, strengthening relationships and creating a more positive, life-giving environment.
Let’s not take ourselves so seriously. Let’s have some good laughs today.
Live the way you want to be remembered.
