Intentional Living

Hi everyone. I’m Sherry Douglas with Heart-Song. In every video you hear me say, “Live the way
you want to be remembered.” Heart-Song believes that intentionality is key to this. We live
much of our lives on auto pilot and it’s necessary. Our brains catch on quickly when we need to
regularly repeat an action. Although that is helpful with routine tasks, it is a roadblock if used in
our relationships. Many of us get up, go to work, come home, watch TV or scroll on our
phones, go to bed, and start all over in the morning. There is nothing wrong with any of those
individual actions, but there is no real intentionality in that routine. Let’s take a look at other
possibilities I’ve thought of and I’m sure you’ll think of some, too.
In the morning, when we rise, let’s immediately thank the Lord for another new day and ask
him to direct our words and actions. We can think about what the day holds and pray for the
people we’ll see and talk with. When we arrive at our destination, we can be deliberate in
staying focused on others and their needs. This doesn’t mean we have to provide all of their
needs, but with compassion and kindness, we can truly see them. When we arrive back home,
we can take time to re-connect with those who reside with us. We can eat dinner together -
without our phones being available. Before we’re ready to settle in to relax for the evening, we
can reach out to others with a phone call or text to let them know we’ve been thinking about
them.
These are only ideas, but I hope you can see the pattern. With intentionality, others know they
are important to us – that we see them and we care. As always, this is a message for me, too.
Let’s live the way we want to be remembered!
