Hi everyone! I’m Sherry Douglas with Heart-Song. Last week we discussed “good intentions.” Hopefully we were inspired by Matthew 7:12a to ask ourselves what we wanted people to do for us, then grab the initiative and do it for them. Having good intentions sets us up for success much better than having no intentions.
What are some things we want others to do for us? If we identify what these are, then taking the initiative to do them for someone else becomes possible. My guess is that most of the ways we answer involve how we end up FEELING, not the actual action itself. We may not remember what people do or do not do for us, but we will remember how they make us feel in the process. Have we been treated with respect? Have we been listened to? Have we been encouraged to share our thoughts and ideas? Have we been looked at with love? Have we been helped when we were sick? Have we been celebrated for a job well done? Whatever we want done for us, it’s time to move on to doing those same kinds of things for others; things that will make them feel the way we want to feel.
Having good intentions allow us to start the day with a perspective of serving others rather than only reacting to the day as it unfolds. None of us know what each day will bring, but we can prepare our hearts and minds to meet it head on. Asking the Lord to show us where he’s already working and then joining him there frees us to be who he created us to be. We can celebrate, invest in, and live out our days with love and honor for others. Grab ahold of the initiative and do for others what you want them to do for you! Live the way you want to be remembered.
See you next week.
