Hi everyone. I’m Sherry Douglas with Heart-Song. I’m sure you’ve noticed that people have become divided concerning many issues within our nation. And within the division, it seems people have given themselves permission to use unkind words. People have become bold in getting their opinions out into the world believing their opinions are the only right way to do something, or that those with different opinions are to be reprimanded. Honestly, it’s not only stressful to be around these people or to read their opinions, it’s heartbreaking. Please understand me, it’s not the opinions that are heartbreaking, but the manner in which they’re communicated. In the comments is a sign that has circulated social media sites that says, “Love your neighbor who doesn’t: look like you, think like you, love like you, speak like you, pray like you, vote like you. Love your neighbor. No exceptions.”
What if we take a few minutes to think about how we have loved our neighbors with our words? Are the words true? Are they kind? Are they necessary? Would I want these words spoken or written about one of my loved ones or me? Simply put, it’s living the Golden Rule, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
Proverbs 16:24 says, “Kind words are like honey – sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.”
Proverbs 11:17 says, “Your own soul is nourished when you are kind, but you destroy yourself when you are cruel.”
Any unkind words we speak and write not only hurt others, they hurt us. Scripture is clear there are benefits to being kind and consequences for being unkind. In this chaotic time, let’s be kind. Let’s love our neighbors. Live the way you want to be remembered.
See you next week.
