Hi everyone. I’m Sherry Douglas with Heart-Song. This past year has been difficult for most us. Politics, Covid 19, and racial unrest has captured the news and social media and have poured into our homes and minds, if we have allowed it. It’s been reported that depression has hit younger students and is more prevalent overall than ever before. Darkness seems to hover over our land.
For some, the darkness is beginning to lift with less mask wearing, fear of illness, and social distancing, but that won’t bring us into the light, will it? There is only One who can light up the world, light up our lives, and that’s Jesus. The question for us is how do we join him to bring light to those in our sphere of influence.
You are needed. Your creativity and love are needed. Your willingness to spread kindness and joy to those around you are needed. We need your dream to take flight! People living in the beauty of their gifts, talents, and passions cast hope out to the rest of us. We see light in their attitudes and behaviors which inspire us to do the same.
When we look into the night sky, we see pinpoints of light in the stars. They and the moon keep us in the light even as the darkness descends upon us. While we live life - whether there is conflict or harmony and whether we’re a person of faith or not - let’s look for the pinpoints of light around us and make the decision to join those that dare to shine.
Matthew 5:14-16 says,“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” The best result of letting our light shine is glorifying our Maker, our Creator. In addition, we get to enjoy how we live, by serving others and by lighting up the lives of others.
How will you shine your light? Live the way you want to be remembered. See you next week.
