Hi everyone. I’m Sherry Douglas with Heart-Song. Have you ever felt stuck? A feeling that wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, you are fixed in place and can’t see a way out? Feeling stuck is common and is real…being stuck permanently is not. Perhaps you’re in a job you don’t like that supports you and your children. STUCK. Maybe you have an idea that isn’t going anywhere. STUCK. Maybe you’re at an impasse with people you love. STUCK. With no solution in sight, we can feel hard pressed. We can become fixated on a problem that seems overwhelming, but what if we open our hearts and minds? What if we trust this is a temporary situation? In Psalm 118:5 the author says, “When hard pressed, I cried to the LORD; he brought me into a spacious place.”
The psalmist was stuck. Notice, though, he took action; he cried out to the Lord. I take that to mean he released the pent-up emotions, confusion, and fears he was experiencing. He expressed himself to the Lord. Perhaps he asked for insight and ideas for his next steps. The result? God brought the psalmist into a spacious place. He was set free. I envision this “spacious place” as having room to breathe. All the answers may not be had, but we can move to a spacious place of being able to think outside of our distress. With hope and expectation, we are able to move forward with purpose.
Are you feeling stuck? Take a moment to read Psalm 118, and cry out to the Lord, and give thanks to him. You’re never alone. Live the way you want to be remembered. See you next week.
