Hi everyone. This is Sherry Douglas with Heart-Song. Do you know the song, “All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth?” It’s fun and true for many 6-8-year-olds! My own sweet six-year-old granddaughter has one front tooth that’s part way in and next to it, a cute gap just waiting to be filled.

This year I think the song everyone is feeling, if not singing out loud, is “All I want for Christmas is peace, sweet heavenly peace.” We’ve all felt the strain and stress of the virus, political climate, racial unrest, and many other personal battles being fought. Peace seems to be evading us.

This past week was the second of four themes of Advent, the time before Christmas that we wait for the coming of Jesus. Just on time, the theme is peace. Often, we think that as individuals, peace is the absence of problems or struggles. Do you know of anyone who is without these things in everyday life? There may be a season in which we experience a calmer time than others, but life consistently holds circumstances we’d rather not have to endure. Sometimes we want to escape our everyday lives to a new place thinking that will bring us peace. But peace isn’t about our location or our circumstances, but a Person – the Person of Jesus – and the relationship we have with him. He is the only One who can guide the way for us to experience and express peace in every part of our battles. The next time we find ourselves trying to run away from our circumstances to find peace, let’s make a 180-degree turn, and run TO the Person of Peace. In Philippians 4:6-7, the apostle Paul shares his wisdom, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. THEN you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Our part…talk with the Lord and thank him. His part…the giving of peace. Seems like a beautiful relationship that can only benefit us. Peace is in the presence of the Lord.

My prayer for you this week is that you experience and sleep in heavenly peace. Thanks for being here. See you next week.
