Hi everyone. I’m Sherry Douglas with Heart-Song. Last week we looked at building one strength at a time as we explore and pursue our interests or passion. I hope you took the time to identify five of your strengths and chose one to build upon with an action step. If you haven’t, it doesn’t take long to make this list of five. I know it can feel daunting thinking of ourselves in this manner, but each of you have many more than five strengths. If you need to ask a trusted close friend or family member to help you, that’s a good thing! Developing one of your strengths could just be the thing that leads you in a new direction, or gives you more confidence to make your next move.

There is one next step that each of us can take that will give us energy and a feeling of satisfaction. It’s not a secret that helping others makes us feel good. It’s an excellent way to add purpose and meaning to our lives. The experience of helping someone, even in a simple way, is fulfilling. And, helping someone doesn’t have to take money. You can rake a neighbor’s lawn, serve through an organization, or call someone who needs a friend. You’ll come up with other ideas that fit who you are or fit your neighbor’s need. In whatever way you decide to help someone, you will quickly see that giving to others can have a mighty impact on your own life. Serving others will provide a sense of purpose for your life.

Scripture gives us an even better reason for helping others. Hebrews 13:16 states, “Don’t forget to do good. Don’t forget to share with others. God is pleased with those kinds of offerings.” Helping others impacts our lives, but to know we pleased God is icing on the cake. This is the Word of the Lord. Live the way you want to be remembered. Thanks for being here. See you next week.
