Hi everyone. I’m Sherry Douglas with Heart-Song. Last week we talked about being an encourager. It made me start thinking about when I am an encourager versus when I am a discourager. I uncovered one of the things that makes a difference in me. I hope you assess yourself and see if this applies to you, too. To be an encourager, I need to have filled up with the goodness around me by using my senses. I need to pause, to process the goodness, recognize its beauty, and where it originated.

On May 12th, Heart-Song had a post that reads:

pause

for just a second.

a moment.

and be grateful.

even if life isn’t perfect.

but thankful

for the life you get to live.

for the stories.

for the adventure.

and for those

you are blessed to love.

pause.

My husband, Mark, and I talked about pausing to be mindful of what is going on around us. To take a moment to see the sun creating shadows as it shines through the window or the leaves of the trees gently blowing in the wind. A pause to truly look at the person sitting across the room and appreciating them for their uniqueness. Maybe it’s a pause, breathing in the delicious aroma of something baking, or enjoying someone’s laughter. If you can, pause right now…be thankful for the life you get to live, for the stories, for the adventure, and for those you love.

For me, that’s the first step. The next is recognizing where the goodness of this pause originated. In Psalm 46:10 the Lord says, “Be still, and know that I am God…” Life isn’t perfect for any of us, but if we take a moment to pause, we’ll become more aware of Him and the goodness he offers. Once we fill ourselves with his beauty, we can then more easily become an encourager. Pause…be still…be grateful. This is the Word of the Lord. Live the way you want to be remembered. Thanks for being here. See you next week.
