Lagging Behind
Hi everyone. I’m Sherry Douglas with Heart-Song. Recently my husband and I visited our son
and his family and had a wonderful time getting to be a part of our grandchildren’s everyday
lives. We attended a Friday night football game which was also Senior Night. During the
recognition of the senior players after the game, they walked across the field to meet up with
their parents. One young man was a lot slower than the other guys because he wore a walking
boot cast. One of the other Senior players realized he was lagging behind, stopped, walked back
to him, put his arm around him, and they finished the walk together. What a simple, beautiful
way to show kindness and compassion to his teammate.
What if we all were determined to show kindness and compassion to others who are lagging
behind - for whatever reasons? They may be lagging behind in being able to provide necessities
for their children. They may be lagging behind in caring for their home because of physical
limitations. They may be lagging behind because of mental health issues or learning challenges.
What if when we become aware of a person lagging behind, we go back to finish their walk with
them? What if we show kindness and compassion to those who need some help? We never
know when WE may become the ones who need assistance. Life can change in a moment, in a
blink of an eye.
Let’s open our eyes and hearts to live with kindness and compassion. Let’s live the way we want
to be remembered.
