Sit With Others
Hi everyone. I’m Sherry Douglas with Heart-Song. All of us have had the
opportunity and honor of sitting with people during their joys and in their grief.
Sitting with people in their joys is a way of affirming the goodness of life and
celebrating the blessings they experience. Whether it is a milestone achieved, a
dream fulfilled, or a simple moment of gladness, our presence communicates
that their joy matters not only to them but to us as well. When we share in
another’s happiness, we multiply it, strengthening bonds of love and friendship.
Just as Paul encouraged believers in Romans 12:15 to “rejoice with those who
rejoice,” entering into another’s joy becomes an act of compassion and unity,
reminding them that they are not alone in their blessings.
Equally important is sitting with others in their grief. Often, no words are
needed—just a compassionate presence that honors their pain and
acknowledges their loss. Sharing in someone’s sorrow lightens their burden,
even if only a little, by reminding them that they are not forgotten. The second
part of Romans 12:15, “mourn with those who mourn,” is to walk with them in
love through the valley, offering comfort simply by being near. In both joy and
grief, the gift of presence is a sacred act of love that reflects the heart of God,
who promises never to leave nor forsake His children.
Let’s love others in all their circumstances. Live the way you want to be
remembered.
