Foundation

Hi everyone. I’m Sherry Douglas with Heart-Song. I’ve struggled today to share a
thought I’ve been tossing around because I don’t want it to sound trite. Many of you
have been going through some rough experiences or unexpected life detours that may
create confusion, turmoil, or even anger. The thing is that when the unexpected
happens or our plans completely unravel, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. We cannot
literally prepare for the unexpected simply because we don’t know what that experience
is going to be. But, in our everyday lives, we can prepare our hearts and minds for
whatever comes our way by exploring our foundations, and deciding ahead who or what
we trust. For me, in uncertain times, it’s a foundation of hope and faith in God that
grounds me. Isaiah 43:2 says, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk
through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.” This verse
reassures us that challenges and heartaches can be occasions to experience God more
intimately. Even in the most difficult circumstances, we are never alone. God does not
promise us a life that is free of challenges, but we can know He will continually walk with
us, making the unexpected an opportunity of growth and beauty. Who or what is your
