Comfort

Hi everyone. I’m Sherry Douglas with Heart-Song. We all experience sorrow. Thankfully,
when we are heartbroken, there are many places to look for comfort and renewal. Many
of us are familiar with Jeremiah 29:11 that says, “For I know the plans I have for you,”
declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope
and a future.” That alone brings comfort, yet verses 12-14 also go a step further. They
say, “Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will
seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.   I will be found by you,”
declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity.” Living in sorrow can feel like
being held in captivity. If we let it, sorrow can keep us lasered in on that one thing. I’m
not suggesting that grieving is to be ignored. On the contrary. We need to embrace it
and work our way through it. These Jeremiah scriptures assure us that we will find the
Lord if we seek him with all of our hearts.
Comfort and renewal can also be offered by others with a good listening ear. Advice
isn’t needed so much as understanding.
A professional counselor can also offer comfort and renewal. A counselor isn’t a last
resort, but someone who is trained to walk alongside us offering emotional and
psychological support.
Many also find solace in nature. The life-giving colors, wind, and sounds of water can
bring peace to a jumbled soul.
When we’re in sorrow, seeking the Lord, others, professionals, and being in nature can
help us navigate life to the fullest.
Live the way you want to be remembered.
