Distractions
Hi everyone. I’m Sherry Douglas with Heart-Song. Last week we talked about time stealers.
Something similar to time stealers is the idea of distractions. Bob Goff has a book called
UNdistracted, Capture Your Purpose, Rediscover Your Joy. I started reading it recently and in the
opening pages, Bob writes, “Be honest. From time to time we all find ourselves in dangerous
places when we think we are safe. Distraction is what leads us into this kind minefield….You
and I need to recognize the signs that we are becoming distracted.”
What distractions are taking you away from what’s important? What minefield are you walking
in right now because of them? It may not be blowing up at this minute, but you know how
minefields are…some detonate with the smallest of movement. The time stealers you identified
last week may also be or lead you to understand the distractions that take you away from who
you are intended to be or what you are intended to do.
One of my distractions, even though it is a good activity, is reading. I read print books, ebooks,
and listen to books. They can be novels for fun, information about things I’m interested in or
books that lead me closer to the Lord. Recently I’ve been reading a lot of novels with the setting
of World War II. They have been based in truth and are stories about individuals that lived
during the Holocaust. It’s good for me to have a better understanding of what took place during
that horrible time. However, if they distract me from being with the Lord, from making progress
on goals I have personally or for Heart-Song, then they’re leading me to a minefield I’d rather
not experience.
What are your distractions? Live the way you want to be remembered!
