Time Stealers
Hi everyone. I’m Sherry Douglas with Heart-Song. I’ve been thinking about time stealers. These
are activities or behaviors that take time away from more impactful endeavors or people you
love.
In the last several months, I gave up a responsibility in which I invested a lot of time. That frees
up time to give to Heart-Song or other things I feel led to do and enjoy. That’s the positive side.
The negative side is that because there is more time, I have allowed time stealers to enter in.
One time stealer I’ve identified is playing a game app I enjoy. There’s nothing wrong with
playing this game, but a lot of time can pass without me realizing it.
To limit the time stolen, I’ve come up with a few ideas that will also limit my playing time. I can
choose the amount of time ahead of playing that I want to give away to this game. It’s no
longer being stolen, but willingly given. When the timer goes off, I’ll allow myself to finish that
game, but then not start a new one. Or, I can set the number of games I’ll play at any one time.
What steals your time? Is it watching Facebook videos? BTW, I’m glad you’re watching this one
and hope you’ll invite others to do so, too! Is it watching TV or YouTube or scrolling on your
phone? If you identify a time stealer and a way to combat it, make a comment below. We can
help one another move from having time stolen to controlling the amount we give! Live the
way you want to be remembered!
