To Truly Love Someone

Hi everyone. I’m Sherry Douglas with Heart-Song. Our family has been going through a tough
time recently. My mother-in-law has been ill and passed away on March 1st. Although that has
been difficult, there has also been meaningful times in the midst. Words that needed said were
spoken. Hugs that needed to be given were received. There were tears, but there was also
beautiful laughter. She was 89, and would have turned 90 in a couple of weeks. We had a 90 th
birthday party planned for her, but instead we have the privilege of celebrating her life.
My husband, Mark, sincerely and sacrificially showed all of us what it means to truly love
someone. He served his mom with gentleness and great care. He listened to and encouraged
her. He fed her and helped her drink. She could not have been loved any better. I will always
remember Mark setting himself aside and serving her with lovingkindness.
We all know that loving someone isn’t always easy. Because we love, we also hurt. Yet, because
we give, we also receive. Because we mourn, we also celebrate.
