Expectations
Hi everyone. I’m Sherry Douglas with Heart-Song. Last week I had the privilege of attending an
event at which Jacob Brown spoke. Jacob is a former NFL player and motivational speaker who
shared his journey and inspired his listeners. Jacob told a story of a father asking his son, “Do
you expect to be successful?” Through their conversation, the father helped the son
understand that expectations – like expecting to be successful – can be observed by his
behavior. The same is true of us. If we expect to be successful, then others will see behaviors
that are leading us to that success.
The word “success” is fairly nebulous simply because we all have our own ideas of what success
is. But the concept works for whatever definition you hold. Jacob suggested we ask ourselves a
couple of questions:
~Do my actions align with my expectations?
~Do my words align with my expectations?
As I’ve thought about his message, my mind has wandered to the way I’ve lived life. If you’ve
watched the Heart-Song videos for long, you know we encourage you to “Live the way you
want to be remembered.” That’s how we define successful living – to be remembered in the
way you desire. It looks different for everyone, but the two questions still apply.
~Do my ACTIONS align with my expectations?
~Do my WORDS align with my expectations?
Live the way you want to be remembered!
