Words to SPARK your Heart-Song – Episode #206

Be You

Hi everyone. I’m Sherry Douglas with Heart-Song. During the Olympic Games we
have been repeatedly reminded that the ordinary, everyday person may turn out
to be the hero of the story. We are reminded there is more than one way to
victory and definitely more than one way to journey in life. The Olympics always
provide fantastic life stories of the athletes. Stephen Nedoroscik, the US
gymnast, prompted us to remember that the most unlikely candidate can soar!
Stephen calls himself nerdy, is an engineer, and wears glasses in daily life. I’ve
seen images of Stephen and Clark Kent side-by-side. Some call him a hero.
Stephen excels in one event: the pommel horse. He was a part of this Olympic
team simply because he is so skilled on this one apparatus. An article I read said
that he spent his day caring for and encouraging his teammates as they
competed. And he meditated. I saw some footage of him sitting with his hood up,
eyes closed, and a slight smile. Stephen was the last athlete to compete so the
arena went quiet. He removed his sweatshirt and took off his glasses. He had to
have an excellent routine for the US to earn a medal in this event for the first time
in sixteen years. Watching it had the feel of a movie! And he was extraordinary.
The moral of the story? Be you! Take the risk of the journey! Seek an
untraditional route to get to your destination. Work hard. Serve others.
Live the way you want to be remembered!
