Hi everyone. I’m Sherry Douglas with Heart-Song. Have you ever felt in life that you’re cruising along fine and then out of the blue here’s this brick wall? A problem or an obstacle? Our responses to obstacles vary, but if we become more aware of who we want to be and how we want to treat others, they may become more clear. We may even need to acknowledge that because of our choices and actions, sometimes we’re the ones who placed the brick wall where it stands.
One option is to press the accelerator to speed up and then slam directly into the brick wall. We choose to hit the problem head on. Our lone effort is to break through it to get to the other side. This option may be necessary sometimes, but it’s one to choose carefully because not only may we hurt ourselves, others may also be in our path.
Another option is to idle up to the brick wall, reflect awhile, pray if you’re a person of faith, and wait before taking action. We still have to encounter the wall, but we’re not moving fast so we can navigate it with a little more finesse.
A third option is to go around the brick wall. As soon as we identify an obstacle ahead, we can start veering off so that we do not have to come into direct contact. We’re not ignoring the obstacle, but deciding ahead of time how we want to deal with it with kindness and love. It gives us time to seek direction, to think through our best move.
No one option is the best every time we encounter an obstacle. Let’s remember, though, what God said to the nation of Israel in Isaiah 42:13, “For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, ‘Do not fear; I will help you.’” What an encouragement! No matter what obstacles or problems you come up against, you can trust and know that God is holding your hand. He tells you not to be afraid because he knows you so well. He’s your forever helper. Seek and you shall find. This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks for being here. See you next week.
