Words to SPARK your Heart-Song – Episode #178

December 18, 2023

Hi everyone. I’m Sherry Douglas with Heart-Song. Last week I was part of an evening of celebrating the Advent season – a time of anticipating the coming of the birth of Jesus. As my friend was leaving that gathering with her five-year-old granddaughter, the child said, “It was so good and yummy - and the JOY.” She had experienced the JOY of the evening.

For many of us, the season of Christmas brings more activities, more baking, more spending, more rushing. Sometimes we try to squeeze in one more party, one more gift, or one more shopping trip. More, more, and more. Sometimes the “more” are good things, but even those can lead to exhaustion and feeling eager for Christmas to be over.

The reason we have Christmas is to celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus. After he was born, an angel appeared in the sky and said to the shepherds, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great JOY for all the people.” That’s JOY for you and me. With all of our frantic motion of “more,” is there room for JOY? What if we intentionally shift our attention from the hustle and bustle to the JOY the angel promised us? If we accept this message of JOY, our Christmas experience will focus on what truly matters. We can still attend our parties, buy gifts, and bake goodies, but those things will be by-products of our JOY.

Live the way you want to be remembered!
