We need to be good friends to ourselves.
Hi everyone. I’m Sherry Douglas with Heart-Song. The last couple of years I’ve been trying to become more aware of how I talk to myself. You know what I mean…aware of what I say in my mind – a place no one hears, but God and me. We can be hard on ourselves, can’t we?
If you’re not sure you participate in negative self-talk, for a couple of days try jotting down the negative things you think about yourself. Often, we say things to ourselves we would never say to our best friends. And that’s not right. We need to be good friends to ourselves, too. To get rid of negative self-talk, we first have to be aware it exists.
This week let’s focus on what we say to ourselves. Ephesians 4:9 says, “Watch the way you talk. Let nothing foul or dirty come out of your mouth. Say only what helps, each word a gift.” When we negative self-talk, most of the time it’s in our minds and doesn’t necessarily come out of our mouths, but we can apply this Scripture. It calls us to a different way to live. Watch the way we talk to others & ourselves, say only what helps, and remember that each word is a gift.
Live the way you want to be remembered.
