Words to SPARK your Heart-Song – Episode #157

The experiences we have in life are thought to be valuable teachers.

Hi everyone. I’m Sherry Douglas with Heart-Song. The experiences we have in life are thought to be valuable teachers. Is the experience the teacher, though, or is the teacher the reflection upon the experience? If we move quickly from one experience to another, do not take time to evaluate what happened, why it happened, and what can be changed for the next time, how do we learn from it?

Many naturally reflect following an experience and may not even realize that’s what is happening. Others simply have the experience and then move on in life, not taking advantage of the great teaching opportunity. Probably many of us land somewhere in between.

Where do you land? Do you purposefully take time to reflect? Do you look back to learn what to do better, how to react differently in the same kind of situation, what actions could give better results, or ask yourself if you would partner again with the same people? Or, because life is comfortable, or you are not a change agent, do you continue to do what you’ve always done?

The next time you and I have a situation that could be an excellent teacher, let’s pause, invest a short amount of time and energy to reflect, and see what we can learn. It doesn’t have to occupy our minds for days or weeks. It can be a quick run through. The intentionality is what is imperative. If we don’t purposefully make a habit of reflecting on life events, we’re going to miss out on becoming wiser, more knowledgeable and perhaps even more creative in how we live life.

Live the way you want to be remembered.
