Generosity comes in many forms.
Hi everyone. I’m Sherry Douglas with Heart-Song. A character quality in others that stands out to me is generosity. A few weeks ago, Heart-Song had a birthday bash at We Love Birthday Parties. The many gifts and messages we received from friends and family were generous.
Generosity comes in many forms, doesn’t it? It can be expressed by allowing someone to step in line in front of you, buying some groceries for those in need, taking your kids or grandkids for ice cream, serving at an organization, or genuinely smiling at a stranger. Generosity can be costly, whether it’s time, money, or inconvenience. However, what I’ve noticed throughout life, and I’m guessing you have, too, is that generosity is actually just as beneficial for the giver as the receiver. We may not receive money in return if we buy something for someone else or give a donation, but more than likely our hearts will feel full and our spirits will be boosted. It feels good to help someone else. And of course, the return for taking kids for ice cream is the joy of building relationships. There is a positive return for each act of generosity.
In the Message, Luke 6:38 says it well. “Give away your life; you’ll find life given back, but not merely given back – given back with bonus and blessing. Giving, not getting, is the way. Generosity begets generosity.”
How about you? What have you experienced when you’ve been generous or someone has been generous to you? Let us know in the comments. Live the way you want to be remembered.
