Beauty and wonder.
Hi everyone. I’m Sherry Douglas with Heart-Song. Last week my husband and I took two of our granddaughters to Brukner Nature Center, a wonderful place the girls ask to visit whenever they’re with us overnight. We spent a lot of our time in the two observation areas watching a variety of birds, squirrels, and a chipmunk living their everyday lives. We were struck by the birds’ beauty, the squirrels’ silliness, and the chipmunk’s expanding cheeks with each bite. As we left one of the observation rooms, I noticed a quote on the wall that I’ve probably read 25 times, but this time, it sang a song in my heart.
The quote by John Burroughs is, “The longer I live, the more my mind dwells on the beauty and the wonder of the world.” I have experienced this same phenomenon, and especially noticed it that day. Being able to set aside life’s concerns to notice the beauty around us becomes easier as we grow older. Of course, some people are better at it than others, but wisdom equips us to focus on beauty and time with young children encourages us to return to a time of wonder. Such a perfect combination – beauty and wonder.
What experiences inspire your mind to dwell on beauty and the wonder of the world? It’s going to be something different for each one of us, but I encourage you to think it through and then make it happen!
Live the way you want to be remembered. See you next time.
