Life has twists and turns.
Hi everyone. I’m Sherry Douglas with Heart-Song. Life has twists and turns, joys and sorrows, adventures and the mundane. We have decisions we’d make again in a heartbeat, and those we would change just as quickly. But all of that is life, isn’t it? We can all relate.
Many things in life are out of our control and that can cause additional stress and anxiety. It’s not easy to accept that even though we may do everything within our power, there are circumstances and situations that we cannot change to what we prefer.
I checked in with a young friend by text the other day and she responded, “We are going through a few obstacles, but we are trying our best to stay faithful and soak in the blessings from the Lord no matter how big or small.” She and her family are experiencing problems, yet they are choosing to recognize the good things. It’s an intentional decision. In her case, their faith is a key factor, but if you are or are not a person of faith, you can decide to name things in your life that are going well and that bring some light into the shadows.
One way to be intentional is to begin a gratitude journal. Each day write in a notebook or on your phone a couple of positive or constructive things that you see in your life and in the lives of those you love. They don’t have to be things that make you laugh out loud; you only have to be grateful for them. As time goes on, your gratitude list will grow and as you look back at it, you’ll feel grateful all over again. Live the way you want to be remembered.
