Hi everyone. I’m Sherry Douglas with Heart-Song. Back in 1965, years before some of you were born and years while some of you were only kids or in your teens, a hit song was released, “What the World Needs Now is Love.” And here we are 55 years later, and what the world needs now continues to be love. 

It’s easy for us to have the mindset that if someone ELSE gets their act together, THEN we can love them. I know most of us don’t want to admit we think like this. It’s not flattering, but I’m not asking you to admit it to anyone else. I only ask that you and I admit it to ourselves. Because that’s where the change has to start – inside the heart of each one of us. I suggest we sit back, take deep breaths, and ask ourselves and God what changes need to take place in how we think of others – in how we LOVE others. The Scripture for today is a beautiful and impactful place to begin. 

1 Corinthians 13:4-8a says, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” The only way for us to love in this manner is to continue to reflect on what’s happening in our hearts and minds and be willing and intentional to change. What the world needs now is love sweet love. Let it start with you and me. This is the Word of the Lord.
