What could it mean to be a good friend to yourself?
Hi everyone. I’m Sherry Douglas with Heart-Song. This morning I saw a post on Facebook by a guy that said he had been cloned. He also had a question, “Why can’t some people get a real job and leave us alone? I got a friend request from myself.” My first reaction was a smile because it had to be rather odd to open up your page and find out you had asked yourself to be your friend.
The more I thought about it, though, the more I realized the premise of this could be a really good thing for our emotional health. What could it mean to be a good friend to yourself?
~Laugh more! Big deep belly laughs. ~Do something you especially enjoy at least one time per week. ~Say kind things to yourself. ~Allow yourself to cry. We don’t have to always push down our emotions. ~Read a book you’ve been wanting to read. ~Buy or bake yourself your favorite treat. ~Take a long walk. ~Call those you love. ~Watch your favorite movie. ~Smile at yourself in the mirror. ~Buy yourself some flowers. ~Give thanks for how you are wonderfully made.
Psalm 139:14 says, “I will give thanks to you (meaning God) because I have been so amazingly and incredibly made. Your works are miraculous, and my soul is fully aware of this.” Acknowledging that you are an incredible creation and showing gratitude for your body, mind, and spirit, will be a wonderful step in becoming our own best friend.
Live the way you want to be remembered. See you next week.
