When we belong, we feel valued and loved.
Hi everyone. I’m Sherry Douglas with Heart-Song. In Episodes #105 & #107, we discussed the first two of three fundamental needs we have, identity and purpose. We landed on our identity needing to come from BEING like God, not from our work or what we DO. We were also encouraged by Scripture that if we’re insightful, we’re able to discover a way to live a meaningful life.
A third fundamental need we have is a sense of belonging. When we belong, we feel valued and loved. When life gets tough, we have somebody to turn to for encouragement and help.
We typically fulfill our need to belong through the relationships we have with our family, friends, church, co-workers, and community groups. Examples of belonging to one another are found in a multitude of verses.
~John 13:34 - "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another...
~Romans 12:10 - Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor…
~Romans 15:7 - Therefore, accept one another, just as Christ also accepted us to the glory of God.
~Galatians 6:2 - Bear one another's burdens…
We all yearn for a sense of belonging. God created us to be in community with one another; serve one another; laugh with one another. If you often feel lonely, start searching for a group of loving, kind, giving people to be a part of. Don’t wait for others to seek your company. Ask the Lord to help you find your people, or as the popular saying goes, “your tribe.”
Some of us will feel lonely occasionally. When you do, remember Psalm 100:3, “Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.” As our creator, we belong in God’s family. One week from today your application for Dare to Dream Dollars is due!
